A new video shows a major crash that occurred after a suspect led police on a high-speed chase in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Helicopter footage taken by Fox 11 Los Angeles shows a vehicle driving at speeds of over 80 mph through the streets of Los Angeles before crashing into an SUV while going through a Koreatown intersection.

According to KTLA 5, the suspect who led police officers on a dangerous chase through the city was driving a black BMW coupe. While passing through the intersection at 5th Street and Wilton Place, the BMW crashed into the side of a white Mazda hatchback.

The impact of the crash sent the Mazda hatchback spinning out of control onto a sidewalk. KTLA 5 reported that the Mazda sustained damage to the passenger side and rear end of the vehicle. Meanwhile, the BMW was recorded crashing into a white SUV that was parked in front of an apartment building and smashing into a tree, resulting in significant damage to the car.

In the video, a suspect can be seen exiting the BMW and running towards another building in the area. According to Fox 11 Los Angeles, up to three people allegedly connected with the high-speed police chase were later taken into custody by law enforcement officials.

Fox 11 Los Angeles reported that the BMW involved in the police chase is believed to have been a stolen vehicle. The outlet also noted that the police chase is believed to have started after an armed robbery.

Addressing the victims of the armed robbery, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Luis Zamorano said, “They were approached while they were in their vehicle or outside their vehicle. The suspect pointed some kind of firearm at them and took some of their belongings. I think it was like a purse or wallet and possibly a cell phone.”

According to KTLA 5, the male driver of the BMW and the female driver of the Mazda were both transported to a local hospital for medical treatment following Thursday’s crash. Fox 11 Los Angeles also reported that law enforcement officers discovered a rifle at the scene of the crash; however, officials have not disclosed whether the suspect used the gun prior to the vehicle chase.
