A mass shooting at a park in Rochester, New York, left two dead and five injured on Sunday. A video from the incident shows a large crowd running after gunshots rang out at an event in the park.

According to Rochester First, Sunday’s mass shooting occurred just after 6 p.m. at Maplewood Park, which is located approximately three miles from downtown Rochester. The outlet reported that police responded to the incident after multiple shots were fired at an event in the park. Upon arrival at the park, police officers found seven people with gunshot wounds.

Rochester First reported that all seven victims were transported to a local hospital; however, while five received “relatively minor injuries” and are currently in stable condition, two of the victims passed away due to their gunshot injuries. The two victims killed in Sunday’s mass shooting have been identified as 25-year-old Tyasia Manning and 34-year-old Phylicia Council.

According to The Post Millennial, no arrests had been made in connection with Sunday’s shooting as of Monday morning. While it was reported that “multiple weapons” were likely used in the shooting, law enforcement officials have not yet revealed how many individuals were involved in the incident.

In a press conference following Sunday’s shooting, Rochester Police Chief David Smith said, “Weekends like these put a strain on our families and our first responder and the Rochester community as a whole. I continue to pray for all those affected and pray that we can all come together to put an end to senseless loss of life.”

Smith explained that hundreds of people had gathered at the park for a barbecue event and that people had been “having a good time” before someone “decided to pull out a gun for whatever reason.” Smith said law enforcement officials were “trying to work our way through as many witnesses as we can” to determine what happened at Sunday’s party in the park. He added, “There were hundreds of people who were at this barbecue, therefore there are hundreds of people who have potential information.”

Describing the chaotic event that unfolded as gunshots were heard, one resident said, “Looking out the window, this whole park, which was full of people was then running for their lives. There were people hiding behind cars, jumping my fence, crying. It was pure terror.”

A video shared on X, formerly Twitter, shows the moment the large crowd heard the gunshots and started running at Sunday’s event.

The Independent reported that Rochester Mayor Malik Evans described the shooters responsible for Sunday’s violence as “cowards” and promised that they would eventually be “brought to justice.”
