House Republicans sent criminal referrals to the Justice Department on Wednesday recommending that both Hunter Biden and James Biden face criminal prosecution for “making false statements to Congress” regarding “key aspects” of the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
A statement released by the House Oversight and Accountability Committee explained that Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.) sent the criminal referral to the Department of Justice due to “false statements” the president’s son and brother allegedly made to Congress.
Wednesday’s statement noted, “These false statements implicate Joe Biden’s knowledge of and role in his family’s influence peddling schemes and appear to be a calculated effort to shield Joe Biden from the impeachment inquiry.”
According to House Republicans, Hunter Biden made “false statements” regarding “a position at Rosemont Seneca Bohai (RSB), a corporate entity that received millions of dollars from foreign individuals and entities who met with then-Vice President Biden before and after transmitting money to the RSB account that then transferred funds to Hunter Biden.” The House committees reportedly obtained documents that showed Hunter Biden represented and was the corporate secretary of RSB.

House Republicans also accused Hunter Biden of providing an “entirely fictitious account about threatening text messages he sent to his Chinese business partner while invoking his father’s presence with him as he wrote the messages.”
In Wednesday’s referral, House Republicans accused James Biden of falsely stating that “Joe Biden did not meet with Tony Bobulinski, a business associate of James and Hunter Biden, in 2017 while pursuing a deal with a Chinese entity, CEFC China Energy.” House Republicans claimed that James Biden’s statements were “contradicted” by Bobulinski and Hunter Biden.
“Our investigation has revealed President Biden knew about, participated in, and benefitted from his family cashing in on the Biden name around the world,” Comer said. “Despite this record of evidence, President Biden continues to lie to the American people about his involvement in these influence peddling schemes.”
Comer suggested that making false statements “runs in the Biden family.” He claimed that House Republicans have “caught President Biden’s son and brother making blatant lies to Congress” in an attempt to “hide Joe Biden’s involvement in his family’s schemes.” Comer concluded that Wednesday’s referral for criminal prosecution was “only the beginning” of holding the Biden family accountable.
