The United States Border Patrol labor union corrected President Joe Biden during the first presidential debate Thursday evening after Biden falsely claimed the Border Patrol endorsed him for president.
During the 2024 presidential debate against former President Donald Trump, Biden claimed the Border Patrol endorsed him, saying, “By the way, the Border Patrol endorsed me. Endorsed my position.”
The Border Patrol immediately responded to the president’s claim on X, formerly Twitter.
“To be clear, we never have and never will endorse Biden,” the official union of the U.S. Border Patrol wrote.
Biden’s false claim about the Border Patrol comes as illegal immigrants continue pouring over the U.S.-Mexico border. Since Biden took office in 2021, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has encountered more than 8 million illegal immigrants at the Southwest border.
According to statistics shared by the CBP, illegal immigration at the northern border also increased by 240% last year, with over 12,200 immigrants crossing illegally into the United States through Canada.
In addition to falsely claiming he was endorsed by the Border Patrol, President Biden also appeared to lose his train of thought multiple times during the debate.

Trump highlighted Biden’s apparent confusion after the Democrat president once again struggled to communicate.
“Continue to move until we get the total ban on the, the, the, the total initiative relative to what we can do with more Border Patrol and more asylum officers,” Biden said during the debate.
When the moderators asked Trump to respond to Biden’s confusing remarks, Trump said, “I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don’t think he knows what he said either.”
