An illegal immigrant was arrested last Friday for allegedly attempting to kidnap a 13-year-old girl from the Granite School District in West Valley City, Utah.
According to ABC 4, Miguel Angel Vega Sedano, a 21-year-old illegal immigrant, was arrested Friday in Salt Lake County with one count for child kidnapping, which is a first-degree felony, and two counts for the possession of a forgery writing, which is a third-degree felony.
ABC 4 reported that the West Valley City Police Department was notified by the Granite School District Police that they had arrested the 21-year-old illegal immigrant for allegedly attempting to pick up a 13-year-old student without parental consent. The outlet noted that the girl’s mother warned the Granite Police of Sedano’s alleged kidnapping plan before the 21-year-old arrived at the school.
According to police documents obtained by ABC 4, the 13-year-old’s parent had discovered “numerous messages over social media” between her child and Sedano, including messages that showed the illegal immigrant was heading to the school to pick her daughter up.
After locating Sedano in a vehicle at the school and detaining him, police officers discovered that the illegal immigrant had a fraudulent permanent resident card and a fraudulent Social Security card. According to ABC 4, Sedano admitted that the fraudulent documents had been given to him by a family member in Arizona.

In an interview with police after his arrest, the 21-year-old illegal immigrant admitted that he communicated with the 13-year-old girl and was at the school to “pick the girl up and take her home,” according to a police affidavit.
The affidavit stated, “Miguel provided written consent for investigators to review his Instagram account and investigators found a chat thread with the 13-year-old girl.”
According to The Post Millennial, Sedano currently remains at Salt Lake City Count Jail as law enforcement continues to investigate the attempted kidnapping incident. The Post Millennial also reported that Sedano has been identified as a citizen of Peru.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Libs of TikTok shared a photo of Sedano and warned, “Innocent kids just attending school are put in danger in Biden’s America!”
Following Friday’s incident, the Granite School District released a statement, saying, “On Friday afternoon, the parents of a 13-year-old student notified school administrators and Granite Police just prior to the end of school, that an adult male had befriended their child online and made plans to meet in person. We are grateful the student disclosed the conversation to their parents and the student was not harmed.”
