A 12-year-old boy from Hazelwood, Missouri, recently died after being seriously injured in a car accident in December that was allegedly caused by an illegal immigrant driving 75 miles per hour the wrong way.

According to The St. Louis Post Dispatch, Edina Bracho, a 33-year-old illegal immigrant, has been accused of allegedly speeding the wrong way in Hazelwood at 75 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour zone, resulting in her minivan crashing into a Jeep that was carrying 12-year-old Travis Wolfe and his parents, Stephanie and Timothy.

Fox 2 Now reported that Travis Wolfe was transported to St. Louis Children’s Hospital and that Bracho’s two children, who were in the minivan with her at the time of the crash, were also transported to the children’s hospital with serious injuries. Meanwhile, Stephanie and Timothy Wolfe were transported to Mercy Hospital with multiple broken bones. Travis Wolfe remained on life support for roughly three months before dying from his injuries last Wednesday.

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, shared a picture of Wolfe on X, formerly Twitter.

According to Fox 2 Now, Bracho has been charged with one count of involuntary first-degree manslaughter, two counts of first-degree child endangerment, two counts of second-degree assault, and one count of driving without a valid license.

Court documents reviewed by Fox 2 Now revealed that Bracho is “here illegally from Venezuela.” The illegal immigrant is currently in custody on a $500,000 cash bond. Bracho is currently scheduled to appear in court on April 8.

After Wolfe’s death, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) released a statement on social media, blaming President Joe Biden’s open border policies for allowing millions of illegal immigrants like Bracho to enter the United States and harm U.S. citizens. Sharing a picture from the car accident, Hawley tweeted, “Travis Wolfe, a 12-year old Missouri boy killed by an illegal migrant. This is what an open border does. Say his name.”

Hazelwood Police Sgt. Scott Schnurbusch told Fox 2 Now that Bracho’s illegal immigrant status did not “play a part” in the department’s investigation of the accident. However, Schnurbusch said, “It was just difficult identifying all parties involved because we didn’t have documentation or identifications in the vehicle to try to figure out who the two juveniles and the suspect were.”

According to Fox 2 Now, the police investigation included a reconstruction of the tragic car accident and eyewitness accounts of the incident. The Hazelwood Police Department told Fox 2 Now that it hopes Bracho’s arrest will provide some form of closure for the Wolfe family.

Commenting on the tragic nature of the accident, Schnurbusch said, “One thousand seven hundred feet is quite a big distance to travel at over 70 miles an hour on a 40-mile posted road. That’s a long way to travel in the wrong direction and not realize it.”
