The widow of a Navy corpsman killed in a plane crash during a training exercise in Mississippi honored her husband by revealing the gender of their baby on Veterans Day.
“I wanted to honor her daddy on this special day,” Cassie Lohrey told CNN. “Veterans Day is a big deal for us every year, but this year it’s extra special.”
Cassie Lohrey married Navy Corpsman 1st Class Ryan Lohrey in June, just a few weeks before Ryan Lohrey died in a military transport plane crash heading to Yuma, Arizona, for training.
A few weeks after the crash, Cassie Lohrey found out that she was pregnant and is due in March 2018.
“The week after the funeral was when we found out we were having a baby,” Cassie Lohrey told CNN. “I knew Ryan wouldn’t leave me alone. He wanted me to have a piece of him forever.”
To honor her husband, she held a gender reveal party with the help of 16 service members, some of whom reached out asking to help with the announcement.
At the gender reveal, service members pulled poppers revealing that the baby will be a girl. The baby will be named Ryan Jo Lohrey.
Photos and video of the reveal was captured by photographer Saralyn Johnson.
