Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Seizes Nearly 1,000 Pounds of Marijuana in Five Hours

EDINBURG, Texas – Last night, Rio Grande Valley Sector agents seized more than 900 pounds of marijuana in four separate incidents during a span of five hours.

Late Monday night, Border Patrol agents seized four bundles of marijuana in a subdivision located in Rio Grande City, Texas. Agents did not encounter any suspects. The abandoned bundles weighed 228 pounds and are valued at $182K.

Shortly after midnight, McAllen agents working in La Joya, Texas, observed three subjects carrying large bundles of marijuana. Agents successfully apprehended all subjects and seized the contraband. The marijuana weighed 117 pounds and is worth $93K. The subjects and narcotics were turned over to the Hidalgo HIDTA Task Force.

An hour later, agents in Fronton, Texas, seized five bundles of marijuana and observed eight suspects abscond into Mexico. The total weight of the marijuana was 339 pounds and has a value of more than $270K.

The fourth and final incident occurred in Rio Grande City, Texas. Agents patrolling near the Rio Grande tracked several suspects to an apartment complex where they seized three bundles of marijuana. The smugglers fled into Mexico. The three bundles weighed 216 pounds and have an approximate value of $172K.
