Rio Grande Valley agents seize over 1000 lbs. in seven hours

EDINBURG, Texas – In a seven-hour period, Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol agents interrupted four smuggling attempts that resulted in the seizure of more than 1,100 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated nearly $1M.

Early this morning, agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station detected several subjects carrying suspected bundles of narcotics from the Rio Grande and load them into a vehicle. Agents interdicted the smuggling attempt, resulting in the seizure of several bundles of marijuana weighing approximately 450 lbs.

Yesterday, agents from the Rio Grande City, Fort Brown and McAllen stations intercepted three different smuggling attempts that resulted in the seizure of 13 bundles of marijuana weighing 686 lbs. These events occurred in Garceno, Escobares, Brownsville and Havana, Texas.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.
