Border Patrol Agents arrest 7 in failed human smuggling attempt

BRACKETTVILLE, TexasU.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Brackettville Station arrested a suspected smuggler and six Mexican nationals after a failed smuggling attempt, May 7.

“Smugglers continue their reckless acts of criminal activity,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Doyle E. Amidon, Jr. “This situation could have ended terribly for all involved, but thanks to their commitment to safety, our agents were able to successfully apprehend these individuals without incident.”

Agents assigned to the Brackettville Station attempted to perform a vehicle stop on a 2005 Dodge Ram on Ranch Road 334. The vehicle continued driving for a short distance before the driver, a 19-year-old United States citizen from San Antonio, pulled over and several occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Agents arrested the driver as he attempted to flee. After a brief search of the area, agents were able to locate six individuals that had absconded into the brush. The driver and six suspected illegal aliens, all Mexican nationals, were taken into custody.

The driver was turned over to Kinney County Sheriff’s Office. All illegal aliens are processed in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection guidelines.
