The 494th Fighter Squadron arrives to participate in exercise Checkered Flag 19-1 at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., May 3, 2019.
Checkered Flag is a large-force exercise that allows fourth- and fifth-generation aircraft and personnel the opportunity to train together. This exercise is designed to enhance the U.S. Air Force’s ability to rapidly forward deploy at a moment’s notice.
Checkered Flag 19-1 will take place May 6-17 and is the first CF exercise to be hosted at Tyndall Air Force Base since being devastated by Hurricane Michael, a category five hurricane, in October 2018.
