New Federal Election Commission filings by Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), one of President Donald Trump’s top critics, appear to expose the Democrat representative for a “bizarre inconsistency” regarding more than $360,000 in payments to a Haitian American staff member.
According to Federal Election Commission filings for Swalwell for Congress and Swalwell’s Remedy PAC obtained by Fox News, more than 75 payments were issued for a Haitian American staff member named Darly Meyer. Fox News reported that the payments were issued to Meyer as far back as 2021 and as recently as last month, with payments as small as $53 and as large as $12,000.
The Federal Election Commission filings obtained by Fox News show that Meyer received 27 payments last year for a total of more than $120,000 and is currently on pace to receive over $120,000 this year from Swalwell’s campaign. The filings include multiple different reasons for the payments, including security services, travel expenses, salary, car service, postage, “personal travel expense reimbursement,” and “event flowers reimbursement.”
Fox News reported that Meyer is an administrator of the “CaliHaitians – Haitians in Az, Ca, Nv, Hi, Or, Wa” Facebook Group, which is described as a “progressive community” of Haitians in the United States. The group’s Facebook page states that it is “selective” regarding group membership as a way of “forging a closer bond with the folks within the growing community and or those voted head members of groups/organizations that are able to provide professional services to strengthen the community.”
According to Fox News, Meyer is also the owner of a California limousine service called CYD Global Car Service.

Hans von Spakovsky, who formerly led the Federal Election Commission, told Fox News that the mysterious payments Swalwell’s campaign has made to Meyer are “the type of bizarre inconsistency that should catch the attention of the FEC.” The former commissioner noted that the inconsistencies should “cause the agency’s auditing arm to investigate whether these were legitimate payments to a legitimate contractor.”
Asked about the different payment classifications and for clarification regarding Meyer’s role on Swalwell’s staff, the Democrat representative told Fox News, “Darly protects me and my family.”
Swalwell also released a statement on X, formerly Twitter, mocking Fox News for asking about the Federal Election Commission filings.
“LOL get this —@Pete_Pinedo of Faux News emailed and asked why I’ve spent $350,000 on security,” Swalwell tweeted. “I responded ‘because there’s a direct correlation between the lies Fox tells about me and the death threats that follow aimed at me and my kids.’ Maybe I should send Pete the bill?”
Despite Swalwell’s statement, Fox News reported that records from the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services do not appear to show that Meyer has a security license.
