The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that an illegal immigrant truck driver granted a license by the state of New York caused a major crash last week that resulted in an Indian National Guardsman being killed and three other victims being hospitalized.
According to The Daily Wire, Goderdzi Gujabidze, a 56-year-old Georgian national, caused a major car crash last week after he swerved while driving a truck that was towing a trailer with multiple cars on it. The outlet noted that the 56-year-old caused a military Humvee to swerve off the road, resulting in 23-year-old Indian National Guardsman Terry Frye’s death. Three other victims were hospitalized as a result of the incident.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office noted in a press release that officials encountered a “language barrier” when they attempted to communicate with Gujabidze. The sheriff’s office confirmed that a translator was later required to communicate with the 56-year-old.
The Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire that Gujabidze received a non-domiciled commercial driver’s license in New York after crossing the border in San Luis, Arizona, and being released into the United States by former President Joe Biden’s administration in 2022.
“Another senseless and avoidable tragedy on America’s roads at the hands of an illegal alien driving a commercial vehicle,” Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Wire. “Sanctuary states are recklessly providing commercial driver’s licenses to illegal aliens who should not be operating 18-wheeler and trucks on America’s highways.”

The Daily Wire reported that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged a detainer against Gujabidze following last week’s deadly crash.
“Thanks to the cooperation from Boone County Sheriff’s Office, this illegal will never again be allowed to terrorize American roads again,” McLaughlin added. “We pray for the family of Terry Frye as they mourn the loss of their son and thank him for his service to this nation.”
In a statement to The New York Post, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), who is running against Hochul in New York’s gubernatorial race next year, said, “The Worst Governor in America wants New Yorkers to share the road with illegals even if they can’t read English traffic signs.” Stefanik added, “This illegal should have never been driving an 18-wheeler.”
In September, the Department of Transportation confirmed that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration was conducting an audit in response to “horrific, fatal crashes caused by non-domiciled drivers.”
“What our team has discovered should disturb and anger every American,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said. “Licenses to operate a massive, 80,000-pound truck are being issued to dangerous foreign drivers — often times illegally. This is a direct threat to the safety of every family on the road, and I won’t stand for it.”
