A new poll shows that 70 percent of Democrats are in favor of legislation that would provide amnesty for illegal immigrants and would allow them to become permanent citizens in the United States.

According to a new poll from Rasmussen Reports, 50 percent of likely U.S. voters support legislation that would grant amnesty for illegal immigrants. The poll also found that 22 percent of likely voters strongly support legislation to provide amnesty for illegal immigrants, while 43% of likely voters are opposed to the idea, including 28% of likely voters who strongly oppose the idea of the legislation.

The Rasmussen survey asked likely U.S. voters, “In general, would you support or oppose legislation to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants and allow them to become permanent US residents?” In response to the survey question, 70 percent of Democrats indicated that they support potential amnesty for illegal immigrants, while 63 percent of Republicans indicated that they are opposed to amnesty for illegal immigrants.

In addition to the question on amnesty for illegal immigrants, likely U.S. voters were also asked whether President Donald Trump’s administration’s immigration policies have been “too harsh, about right, or not harsh enough.”

According to Rasmussen Reports, the poll also showed that 48 percent of independent voters indicated that Trump’s immigration policies have been too harsh.

According to Rasmussen Reports, the poll was conducted from October 12 to October 14 and included 1,177 likely U.S. voters with a margin of error of three percent.
