A terrorist attack that left six people dead and 14 others injured in Jerusalem was stopped on Monday by an off-duty Israel Defense Forces soldier and an armed civilian.

Fox News reported that a terrorist attack took place on Monday in northern Jerusalem as two attackers boarded a bus and started shooting. The outlet cited paramedics, who confirmed that six individuals were killed and 14 individuals were wounded, including five people who were listed in serious condition.

According to The Times of Israel, the two individuals responsible for Monday’s terror attack in Jerusalem have been identified as 21-year-old Mohammed Taha and 20-year-old Muthana Amro. The individuals killed in Monday’s attack have been identified as Rabbi Mordechai Steintzeg, Sarah Mendelson, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Pash, Yaakov Pinto, Rabbi Yosef David, and Yisrael Metzner, according to Ynet Global.

Ynet Global reported that the attackers were killed by an Israel Defense Forces sergeant serving with the Hasmonean Brigade and a civilian.

“I was at the junction and heard gunfire,” the sergeant said following Monday’s incident. “I ran out to the bus stop and saw the terrorists. A few civilians and I identified them and opened fire until we saw they were fully neutralized, then we moved in to help the wounded. I’m glad I was able to do it.”

According to Ynet Global, the Israeli civilian who helped take out the two terrorists on Monday has been identified as a yeshiva student. The outlet noted that the civilian was armed with a pistol that he inherited from his grandfather, who was a volunteer with the police.

“He was on his way to yeshiva,” the civilian’s brother-in-law told Ynet Global. “He emptied the magazine on the terrorists.”

In a statement obtained by Ynet Global, Col. Avinoam Emunah, commander of the Israel Defense Forces Hasmonean Brigade, suggested that the actions taken by the off-duty sergeant provide “further proof of the great significance of establishing the brigade and training Haredi fighters to bear arms, to be ready for combat and to neutralize any threat wherever it appears.”
