Law enforcement officials have confirmed that at least three individuals were shot on Wednesday morning in a shooting at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas.

According to Fox News, Wednesday’s shooting reportedly took place as ICE officials were transferring detainees into the facility in Dallas at roughly 7:30 a.m. (local time). The Dallas Police Department confirmed that a preliminary investigation of Wednesday’s shooting incident “determined that a suspect opened fire at a government building from an adjacent building.”

“Preliminary information is a possible sniper,” Todd Lyons, the acting director of ICE, said in an initial statement obtained by CNN. “We have three individuals that are down at this time. We’re not sure on their condition. They’ve been taken to the hospital.”

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said, “There was a shooting this morning at the Dallas @ICEgov Detention Facility. Details are still emerging but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities.”

Noem explained that the shooter was “deceased by a self-inflicted gun shot wound” and warned that while the motive behind Wednesday’s shooting was not yet known, ICE officials have been facing “unprecedented violence against them.” The Homeland Security secretary urged Americans to stop the violence against ICE officials and facilities and to pray for the victims and their families.

According to NBC News, an ICE spokesperson confirmed that two of the three victims shot at the ICE facility in Dallas have died, while the third victim remains in the hospital. The outlet noted that all three of the victims were detainees at the ICE facility and that no law enforcement officials were injured in the shooting.

In a statement on social media, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Deputy Director Dan Bongino announced that the FBI is “fully engaged” and is working with federal and state law enforcement officials at the scene of the shooting in Dallas.

Following Wednesday morning’s shooting, Vice President J.D. Vance released a statement, saying, “The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) also released a statement, saying, “My team and I are closely monitoring the situation at the ICE Detention Facility in Dallas. We are praying for the swift recovery of those injured, and we are deeply grateful to the brave first responders who rushed to the scene.”

This was a breaking news story. The details were periodically updated as more information became available.
