Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) sent a letter on Thursday to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) urging the Republican leader of the House of Representatives to order that a statue be featured in the U.S. Capitol in honor of Charlie Kirk. The letter comes after the 31-year-old conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder was assassinated on Wednesday at Utah Valley University.

“I owe my entire political career to Charlie Kirk,” Luna wrote in a statement alongside the letter on X, formerly Twitter. “I would quite literally not be in office today if it weren’t for him.”

Luna explained that Kirk endorsed her and helped her win election when her own party was “working against” her. In light of Kirk’s assassination, the Florida Republican announced that she was urging Johnson to have a statue of Kirk placed in the U.S. Capitol to “honor his legacy and to serve as a permanent testament to his life, work, and sacrifice.”

In Thursday’s letter to Johnson, Luna said, “We write to you today with heavy hearts, mourning the tragic loss of Charlie Kirk, a patriot, a father, and a fearless voice for conservative values, who was senselessly assassinated on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University.”

Luna described Kirk’s assassination as a “wound” to the United States and a “stark reminder of the escalating political violence fueled by the divisive and hateful rhetoric from the Left.”

In Thursday’s letter, Luna highlighted Kirk’s accomplishments of founding Turning Point USA, building the organization into one of the “largest grassroots movements” in the United States, providing a major platform for debate, and inspiring “countless young people.”

“Charlie was also a man of deep faith whose devotion to his Christianity guided every word he spoke and every cause he embraced,” Luna stated. “He reminded this nation that our values-faith, family, and freedom-are not negotiable. He loved Jesus Christ with his whole heart, and it was that love that gave him the courage to stand strong in the face of hostility.”

“To honor this legacy, we call upon you to direct that a statue of Charlie Kirk be placed in the United States Capitol,” Luna added. “This is not a symbolic gesture, but a permanent testament to his life’s work, his courage, and his sacrifice. It will stand as a reminder that political disagreement must never be answered with violence, and that the fight for truth must carry on.”

Luna’s letter to Johnson included the signatures of Reps. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) Barry Moore (Ala.), Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.), Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.), Eric Burlison (R-Mo.), Jefferson Van Drew (R-N.J.), Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Mary Miller (R-Ill.), Michael Rulli (R-Ohio), Pat Fallon (R-Texas), Randy Fine (R-Fla.), and Tony Gonzales (R-Texas).
