Two people were killed and two others were wounded at a church in Kentucky on Sunday after a suspect shot a state police officer near Blue Grass Airport.

The Lexington Police Department identified the shooting suspect on Monday as 47-year-old Guy House.

In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, the Kentucky State Police confirmed that a state trooper was shot at 11:36 a.m. on Sunday in Fayette County. According to Fox News, Lexington Police Department Chief Lawrence Weathers told reporters that the state trooper was shot after pulling the suspect over near Blue Grass Airport.

Weathers told reporters on Sunday that the suspect fled the scene and carjacked a vehicle after shooting the state police officer. The police chief explained that law enforcement officials were able to track the 47-year-old suspect to Richmond Road Baptist Church, which is located in Kentucky, by using the Air Support Unit and Real-Time Intelligence Center.

According to Fox News, officials confirmed that House started shooting at victims at Richmond Road Baptist Church, resulting in two women being killed and two men being wounded. The Lexington Police Department identified the two deceased women as 32-year-old Christina Combs and 72-year-old Beverly Gumm. Fox News reported that one of the wounded victims was listed in critical condition, and the other wounded victim was listed in stable condition.

“The suspect was shot by responding law enforcement and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Weathers stated. “Three Lexington police officers fired their service weapons in accordance with the Lexington Police Department’s policies.”

Weathers told reporters that while the investigation into Sunday’s shooting incident remains ongoing, law enforcement officials believe the suspect may have been connected to the church.

In a Sunday statement on X, Gov. Andy Beshear (D-Ky.) said, “I’m heartbroken to share the shooting in Lexington at Richmond Road Baptist Church has taken the lives of two people. Other injuries — including a Kentucky State Police trooper from the initial stop — are being treated at a nearby hospital. The shooter has also been killed.”

“Violence like this has no place in our commonwealth or country,” Beshear added. “Please join Britainy and me as we pray for the families of those lost, each one a child of God gone too soon. Thank you to the @lexkypolice and @kystatepolice for their brave efforts today.”
