Over 400 backpacks filled with school supplies were recently given to U.S. military children at Georgia’s Moody Air Force Base ahead of the upcoming school year.
In a Wednesday press release, Moody Air Force Base announced that the 23rd Force Support Squadron’s Freedom 1 Fitness Center and Military and Family Readiness Center hosted the base’s annual BACKpack-to-School Bash on July 18 to provide free school supplies and family fun for U.S. military families.
“As the new school year approaches, many military families find themselves juggling the chaos of shifting schedules, planning lunches, and shopping for clothes—all while navigating the unpredictability of military life,” Rachael Connor, a 71st Rescue Squadron key spouse, said.
“One of the biggest stressors? Tracking down every last—and sometimes oddly specific—item on those school supply lists,” Connor added. “The BACKpack-to-School Bash helps ease that burden by providing kids with a ‘first day of school’ ready bag, giving parents one less thing to worry about and one more reason to breathe a little easier.”

Wednesday’s press release noted that each of the over 400 backpacks distributed to military children at Moody Air Force Base was filled with school supplies due to the efforts of Operation Homefront and Beautiful Creations by Chanel, a local nonprofit organization.
“It’s important for me to give back to military families because I can personally relate to their experiences,” Beautiful Creations by Chanel CEO Chanel Randolph said. “When one person serves, the entire family serves alongside them, sacrificing time, stability, and often personal needs for the good of our country. It’s not just the service member who carries the weight, but the entire family unit. These families often face unique challenges and deserve both support and recognition.”
According to Operation Homefront’s website, the nonprofit organization’s mission is to “build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive.” Operation Homefront’s Back-to-School Brigade provides thousands of backpacks to military families every year to help the families manage school supply expenses. According to its website, Operation Homefront’s Back-to-School Brigade has distributed over 550,000 backpacks to the children of military families.
Operation Homefront’s website notes that the Back-to-School Brigade program serves as a “crucial resource” for U.S. military families who face a variety of challenges, including financial difficulties.
