An illegal immigrant who was previously deported from the United States was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and charged for attempted murder after throwing a Molotov cocktail at law enforcement officials during Saturday’s anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles.

In a Wednesday press release, the Department of Homeland Security said Emiliano Garduno-Galvez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, was arrested on Monday by ICE agents in Los Angeles. The press release identified Garduno-Galvez as an illegal immigrant suspect responsible for throwing a Molotov cocktail at law enforcement officials on Saturday as part of the Los Angeles riots. The press release added that Garduno-Galvez was charged with attempted murder on Tuesday.

“Emiliano Garduno-Galvez is a criminal illegal alien from Mexico who threatened the lives of federal law enforcement officers by attacking them with a Molotov cocktail during the violent riots in Los Angeles. ICE arrested Garduno-Galvez, and he is now being charged with attempted murder,” Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said. “These are the types of criminal illegal aliens that rioters are fighting to protect.”

“The Los Angeles rioters will not stop us or slow us down,” McLaughlin added. “And if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Garduno-Galvez was previously deported prior to his involvement in the anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the illegal immigrant was arrested in 2024 by the Anaheim Police Department for grand theft and by the Long Beach Police Department for driving under the influence.

The Department of Homeland Security shared a picture of Garduno-Galvez on X, formerly Twitter, alongside a video of the illegal immigrant throwing a Molotov cocktail at law enforcement officials during Saturday’s riots.
