A former Democratic staffer and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) official has been released on bond after recently being arrested and charged with abduction with the use of force, sexual battery, and assault and battery.
In a press release that was published earlier this month, the City of Alexandria announced, “The Alexandria Police Department (APD), in collaboration with the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD), has arrested 35-year-old Jeffrey Gary, a resident of Fairfax County, in connection with assaulting a woman on Friday evening near the Braddock Metro Station.”
According to the press release, Gary approached a female from behind at 9:41 p.m. on a Friday night before grabbing her, wrestling her to the ground, and trying to restrain her.
“The victim bravely resisted, shoved the suspect away, and ran to safety before calling 911,” the press release stated. “No weapon was used in the assault.”
ABC 13 News reported that prior to the incident at 9:41, Gary assaulted another woman who was with her four-year-old child at the Potomac Yard Metro station at 8:45 p.m.
The City of Alexandria confirmed that Gary has been charged with one count of assault and battery, one count of sexual battery, and two counts of abduction with force.
According to ALXnow, Gary worked as an assistant division chief for the FCC until he was arrested on June 1. In a statement to The Daily Caller, the FCC said, “Upon hearing of this disturbing incident we took immediate action against this employee. His employment with the agency has been terminated.”

The Daily Caller reported that prior to working for the FCC, Gary worked as a staff assistant for Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) in 2015 and as a law clerk for Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) in 2017 and 2018.
Court records obtained by ALXnow show that the former Democrat staffer was released on four bonds totaling $14,000 on June 13. The outlet noted that Gary is currently expected to appear in court on July 7.
Following Gary’s release on bail, Alexandria Commonwealth Attorney Bryan Porter told ALXnow that the city “disagrees” with his release.
“The Commonwealth disagrees with the bail decision and is appealing the matter to the Court of Appeals,” Porter said. “The defendant is presumed to be innocent, and the fact that he has been charged should not be taken as evidence that he is guilty. Given that the matter is pending, the Commonwealth cannot make further comment about the case.”
