Igloo recalls over 1 million coolers amid reports of fingertip amputations

Igloo is recalling more than 1 million coolers amid numerous reports of injuries, including fingertip amputations.

The voluntary recall applies to the company’s 90-quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a press release Thursday. The affected coolers have a tow handle with “IGLOO” printed on the side.

At least a dozen injuries have been reported, including amputated fingertips, bone fractures and lacerations.

“The tow handle can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards,” the commission said.

The affected coolers, which cost between $80 and $140, were sold in a variety of colors between January 2019 and January 2025 at retailers like Target, Costco, and Dick’s Sporting Goods. They were sold online by Amazon and on the Igloo Coolers website.

The company is offering free replacement handles to anyone with a recalled cooler.

“With consumer safety as our top priority, we have voluntarily issued a recall on the 90QT Flip & Tow Rolling Cooler and have provided consumers with a proper course of action that includes a free replacement handle,” Igloo said in a statement obtained by “Good Morning America.”

Around 47,000 coolers are also being recalled in Canada, along with 23,000 in Mexico.

In March 2023, YETI — an Igloo competitor — recalled nearly twice as many products over concerns about accidental magnet ingestion.
