Whitney Cummings, a stand-up comedian, roasted CNN over its plummeting viewership ratings during the outlet’s coverage of New Year’s Eve on Tuesday. The comedian also mocked the Democratic Party over its strategy in the 2024 presidential election.
During an appearance Tuesday on CNN’s “New Year’s Eve Live with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen,” Cummings said, “I’m now playing 3,000-person shows, which is about the viewership of CNN these days.” The comedian added, “Not this show, though. All eyes are on this show.”
In response to the comedian’s jab at the left-leaning news network, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper laughed and said, “Nice, nice,” while Bravo host Andy Cohen said, “You’re all fiery today.”
According to Fox News, CNN experienced double-digit percentage drops in key viewership metrics in the first two weeks after President-elect Donald Trump’s landslide victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. The outlet noted that CNN lost 33% of its total viewers compared to 2024, while losing 36% of its primetime audience and 39% in demographic ratings.
Fox News reported that CNN dropped to number 17 in primetime cable lineups during the first week of December, as “Anderson Cooper 360,” “CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip,” and “The Source with Katilan Collins” averaged roughly 367,000 total viewers from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. In contrast with CNN’s numbers, Fox News reported that it averaged a total of roughly 2.5 million primetime viewers during the first week of December.

During her appearance on CNN’s New Year’s Eve show, Cummings also criticized the entertainment industry for attempting to lecture the American people.
Asked about her new role hosting a trivia show called “Fast Friends,” Cummings said, “You know what, I’m a ‘Friends’ fan. I’m also a fan of entertainment that just entertains. There’s this new thing where everything in Hollywood has to, like, lecture people how to vote and make you feel guilty about global warming.”
Cummings also roasted the Democratic Party over the 2024 election.
“The 2024 election fried our brains. The Democrats couldn’t hold a primary because they were too busy holding a body upright,” the comedian joked. “It was amazing that the pro-choice party didn’t give their voters one when it came to the presidential candidate. Kamala was forced on us so hard, you’d think she was patented by Pfizer or Moderna.”
