Ryan Routh, who is currently in federal custody for allegedly attempting to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump during the 2024 presidential election cycle, recently wrote a letter offering to surrender himself as a hostage to the Hamas terrorist group in Gaza to help “restart the peace process” in the Middle East.

In a letter obtained by The New York Post, Routh wrote, “Will you go with me to Gaza and surrender to Hamas in exchange for a hostage life, please? Will you help me stop the killing of innocent children and families by offering yourself to restart the peace process and end this war?”

“I would say that I am willing to surrender in Gaza . . . merely to restart the peace conversation,” Routh added in the letter. The New York Post reported that Routh suggested that if he and other good Samaritans were willing to take the place of the Israeli citizens currently held hostage by Hamas, Israel would no longer need to continue waging war against the terrorist organization in Gaza.

While Routh remains in federal custody, the would-be Trump assassin claimed he had “unlimited time and funds to travel to D.C. Qatar, Gaza, or anywhere else to deliver the new hostages.”

In addition to offering himself as a Hamas hostage, Routh criticized the response of U.S. authorities to the pro-Palestinian protests at college universities throughout the country in the aftermath of the terrorist organization’s attack against Israel in October of 2023.

Routh wrote, “It was extremely sad when our US leaders crushed the tent cities created by the University students for Gaza.”

The New York Post reported that Routh also compared himself to George Bailey from “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

“I wish for a world where we always put in more than we take out, and do not care for money, or material goods, but do not wish for our neighbors to struggle around the globe,” Routh stated. “I feel as George Bailey, wondering if there is support and value in honor, dignity, righteousness, meek, modest, altruism, magnanimity, empathy, kindness, caring [and] sacrifice.”

The New York Post reported that the envelope of Routh’s letter contained his name, prison identification number, and prison address. The outlet noted that the letter’s authenticity was confirmed by his 31-year-old daughter, Sara Routh.

Discussing Ryan Routh’s letter, Sara Routh told The New York Post, “I have tried to push it but nobody has responded and I haven’t gotten much of anything. I have tried to reach out to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar and Egypt and I have not gotten much.”
