Law enforcement officials have confirmed that human remains were discovered along the shore of the Palos Verdes Peninsula in California last Wednesday and Thursday.

NBC Los Angeles reported that a human leg was discovered on Christmas morning by a family walking along the shoreline of Palos Verdes Estates. The outlet noted that the Palos Verdes Estates Police confirmed that two additional human body parts were found in the same area in California on Thursday.

According to NBC Los Angeles, a human leg was found by a person on the beach just prior to 1 p.m. on Thursday, while a human femur was discovered by a search party.

The Los Angeles Times reported that police officers and coroner investigators conducted a search for additional human remains after Wednesday’s discovery of human remains near the location of a boat that capsized with two fishermen last week.

According to NBC Los Angeles, police used trained dogs to search the shoreline for additional human remains; however, no other human remains were located other than the additional leg and femur. Police officials have not yet revealed whether the remains could be linked to the incident of the missing fishermen.

“Our beaches are typically rock it’s my understanding that it was located at the shoreline but atop some rocks,” Palos Verdes Estates Police Department Captain Aaron Belda said. “At this time we’re not ruling anything out we’re considering all possibilities but we don’t have any reason to believe the two are connected.”

The Los Angeles Times cited police sources who said two men went missing last Monday after launching a small boat from San Pedro despite weather forecasters issuing an advisory for small boats that waves could reach up to 10 feet high. The outlet noted that the men were reported missing on Tuesday and that the capsized boat was discovered along Palos Verdes Estates.

According to The Los Angeles Times, while the U.S. Coast Guard launched a search and rescue operation for the two fishermen on Christmas Eve, the Coast Guard was forced to suspend the search and rescue operation on Christmas due to high winds and other dangerous conditions.
