The chairman and CEO of Columbia-based Tenable Holdings died Jan. 3, the cybersecurity company said.
Amit Yoran, who led the company through a period of growth and a 2018 initial public offering, died of cancer, Tenable said in an announcement Saturday. He joined the company as CEO in 2016. Yoran was 54.
“His passion for cybersecurity, his strategic vision, and his ability to inspire those around him have shaped Tenable’s culture and mission,” Art Coviello, Tenable’s lead independent director, said in the announcement. “His legacy will continue to guide us as we move forward.”
Yoran took a medical leave of absence on Dec. 5. Tenable’s board had appointed Steve Vintz, chief financial officer, and Mark Thurmond, chief operating officer, as co-CEOs. The company will operate under their leadership while the board seeks a new CEO. Coviello will serve as chairman.
Before joining Tenable, Yoran had served as president of RSA Security and founding CEO of NetWitness.
Yoran, a computer science graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point who enjoyed riding motorcycles, described Tenable as a mission-oriented company in a 2023 Baltimore Sun story.
“The cybersecurity work that we do matters,” Yoran told The Sun. “It’s important to our customers and the world. And that’s something we take very seriously. It leads to a sense of dedication from our entire team.”
