A U.S. Navy aviator’s wife went viral recently after surprising her husband with a hunting trip for Christmas after he returned from his three-year deployment overseas.
According to Fox News, Navy aviator Patrick Brennan has been stationed in Japan as a weapon systems officer in an F/A-18 fighter aircraft since the spring of 2022. Cecilia Brennan, Patrick Brennan’s wife, told Fox News that the Navy aviator had said that he missed being able to spend time with his friends and hunting in the United States while he was on deployment.
Cecilia Brennan explained that prior to her husband’s return to Kentucky after nearly three years of deployment in Japan, she was “catching up with his best friends and keeping them in the loop.” As she talked with his friends, they informed her that they were planning for their annual hunting trip to Fowl Plains Outfitter, which offers duck and goose hunting experiences in Great Bend, Kansas.
“Turns out, the same time they would be driving through Kentucky happened to be the same time my husband would be back from deployment,” Cecilia Brennan told Fox News. “I asked if they could make room for one more. It was God’s perfect timing.”

In a viral video posted on Instagram and shared with Fox News, Cecilia Brennan recorded the surprise for her husband, starting with her telling him that his friends were going to be stopping by to “drop something off.”
In the video, the Navy aviator’s friends can be seen entering the family’s house in their hunting gear. Later in the video, Cecilia Brennan can be seen presenting her husband with a suitcase before telling him that he would be joining his friends on their five-day hunting trip.
“Having his best friends knock on the door was a surprise enough, but to actually be going with him, he was in shock,” Cecilia Brennan said. “I still can’t believe we pulled it off.”
According to Fox News, Patrick and Cecilia Brennan have a 6-month-old daughter. However, Patrick Brennan has had to be away from the family for most of the year as part of his military deployment in Japan.
Pointing to the Christmas surprise for her husband, Cecilia Brennan told Fox News, “After all he has sacrificed, he more than deserves a chance to relax and recharge before he dives head-first into family life.”
She added, “Nothing brings me more joy than knowing he’s happy. And now, we will be having duck for Christmas.”
