President-elect Donald Trump announced Daniel P. Driscoll as his nominee for the secretary of the United States Army on Wednesday. The president-elect’s selection of Driscoll was quickly met with praise by other Republican leaders.
In a statement posted on Truth Social on Wednesday morning, Trump wrote, “I am pleased to nominate Daniel P. Driscoll, from the Great State of North Carolina, to serve as the Secretary of the Army. As a former Soldier, Investor, and Political Advisor, Dan brings a powerful combination of experiences to serve as a disruptor and change agent.”
Trump noted that Driscoll graduated in just three years from UNC-Chapel Hill prior to joining the U.S. Army and completing the U.S. Army Ranger school. The president-elect said Driscoll was deployed as a Cavalry Scout Platoon Leader with the 10th Mountain Division as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After returning to the United States, Driscoll graduated from Yale Law School as a result of the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
“Dan has worked in venture capital and private equity, and most recently has been serving as Senior Advisor to Vice President-Elect JD Vance,” Trump added in his statement. “Dan will be a fearless and relentless fighter for America’s Soldiers and the America First agenda. Hailing from Boone, NC, Dan is married to his high school sweetheart, Dr. Cassie Driscoll, a plastic surgeon. They have two beautiful children, Daniel Jr. and Lila.”

Following Trump’s announcement on Truth Social, the president-elect’s nominee for secretary of the Army was quickly praised by multiple Republican lawmakers.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) wrote, “Dan Driscoll will make a fantastic Secretary of the Army. He has the right experience—including as a soldier in combat—to bring the change and refocus on warfighting that the Army desperately needs. I look forward to seeing his confirmation through to the finish line.”
Sen. Ted Budd (R-N.C.) also congratulated Driscoll on his nomination to serve under the second Trump administration. “Dan honorably served our nation in uniform and has what it takes to lead the U.S. Army,” Budd said. “Looking forward to his hearing before the Armed Services Committee.”
Additionally, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) described the president-elect’s pick as “a great choice,” while Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley said Driscoll was a “fantastic choice” by Trump.
Whatley added, “An attorney and veteran from Watauga County, NC, Dan will provide the leadership that the Army needs to protect America’s interests and allies around the world.”
