Matt Gaetz to join conservative news network

Rep. Matt Gaetz. (Released)
December 11, 2024

One America News Network (OAN) announced on Tuesday that former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who withdrew his name last month for consideration as President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general nominee, will be joining the news network.

In a Tuesday press release, OAN announced that Gaetz will be joining the network’s prime-time lineup in January and will be hosting a one-hour political talk show called “The Matt Gaetz Show,” which will broadcast at 9 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) every weeknight.

The press release stated, “Matt Gaetz has earned a reputation as a relentless champion of conservative values, taking on entrenched Washington bureaucrats and exposing government overreach.”

OAN said that Gaetz’s time as a member of the House of Representatives, which began in 2017, included service on the House Judiciary and Armed Services Committees. The outlet said Gaetz was a “leading voice” in “advocating for an unapologetic America-first agenda” and defending the president-elect.

The outlet added, “His knack for connecting with grassroots Americans and shaking up the status quo makes him a dynamic and timely addition to OAN’s team.”

Addressing his next career move, Gaetz said, “OAN is blazing a trail in media, embracing not just traditional news but the platforms where Americans are going — streaming, apps, podcasts and social media. I couldn’t be more thrilled to join OAN’s forward-thinking team and be part of this revolutionary expansion.”

In addition to his role as a host, Gaetz will also be co-hosting a weekly video podcast with Dan Ball, host of “Real America with Dan Ball.”

“We’ve been big fans of Matt Gaetz from day one. We admire his leadership and authenticity, and we’re confident he’ll really connect with our viewers,” Ball said in the press release. “It’s an exciting partnership that’s going to take OAN to the next level.”

Gaetz announced last month that he was withdrawing his name from consideration as Trump’s attorney general nominee amid concerns that he might not be confirmed by Republicans in the U.S. Senate. The former congressman’s announcement came after documents from the House Ethics Committee’s investigation into his alleged sexual misconduct were leaked to the news media.

At the time, Gaetz wrote, “While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General.”

Following his decision to withdraw his name for consideration as attorney general, Gaetz also confirmed that he would not be returning to Congress after quickly resigning from his seat upon being nominated by Trump.
