Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas), who remains in office until January 3, was reportedly found living in a retirement community that offers memory care services.

The Dallas Express reported that the 81-year-old Republican representative, who is retiring at the end of her term in January, has not voted in Washington, D.C., since July, despite Republicans holding a very slim majority in the House of Representatives.

According to The Dallas Express, the outlet received a tip from one of Granger’s constituents, who claimed that the elderly representative had been living in a memory care and assisted living home after she was found lost and confused in her neighborhood. The outlet noted that two employees at the retirement community confirmed that the Republican lawmaker was living at the facility.

The Dallas Express also reported that the assistant executive director of the facility told The Dallas Express, “This is her home.”

Despite the recent report of the Texas lawmaker’s living situation, her son, Brandon Granger, told The New York Post that the claims made by The Dallas Express were “a load of bullsh–t” and that his mother moved into a condo in an independent living facility.

“They have a memory care facility there, but she’s in [an] independent living facility,” Brandon Granger said. “It’s a nice condo. I helped her move in.”

While Brandon Granger denied that his mother was living in a memory care facility, he told The New York Post that Kay Granger has shown signs of dementia; however, he claimed that the signs of dementia only started in the past three months while she was living at the retirement facility.

In a statement attributed to the Republican lawmaker, Kay Granger said, “I am deeply grateful for the outpouring of care and concern over the past several days.”

“As many of my family, friends, and colleagues have known, I have been navigating some unforeseen health challenges over the past year,” Granger added. “However, since early September, my health challenges have progressed making frequent travel to Washington both difficult and unpredictable. During this time, my incredible staff has remained steadfast, continuing to deliver exceptional constituent services, as they have for the past 27 years.”

In her statement, Granger also explained she returned to Washington, D.C., in November and was able to oversee the closing of her office prior to her retirement in January. She will be replaced by Congressman-elect Craig Goldman (R-Texas).
