Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies shot an armed man dead following a pursuit near the Fort Lauderdale Tri-Rail station, officials say.

Just before 2 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a “domestic disturbance with a firearm” at a home in Broward County, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Carey Codd said in a news release.

An armed man fled the home, and deputies pursued him to the intersection of Southwest First Street and Southwest 21st Terrace in Fort Lauderdale, next to the Tri-Rail station, Codd said. There, the deputies had an “encounter” with the man, and multiple deputies fired their guns, striking him.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue paramedics responded to a call from BSO about the shooting a little after 2:30 p.m., according to spokesperson Frank Guzman. They arrived on scene and pronounced the man dead.

Officials did not provide any more details about what led to the shooting or the man’s identity.

Later, detectives recovered a gun from the scene.

A large number of deputies stood under the overpass of Interstate 95 and Broward Boulevard Saturday afternoon, investigating a roped off area just north of the Tri-Rail station.

All the deputies involved in the shooting are on administrative leave, Codd said. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
