The Oakland Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday that one victim in a triple shooting on Christmas Eve near Oxford High School has died.

Sheriff Mike Bouchard’s office announced the update in a Facebook post Wednesday afternoon.

Oakland County authorities did not provide other details on the death or the victim.

The shooting was reported around 6:32 p.m. Tuesday on Ray Road between Lapeer and North Oxford roads in Oxford Township. Three people were found with gunshot wounds, the sheriff’s office said.

The other two victims are “on the road to physical healing,” officials wrote in the Christmas Day update on Facebook.

Authorities said a male suspect was in custody and a gun had been recovered Tuesday night.

“At this point it appears that the terrible events of last night were completely random with the suspect just passing through the community when he went off on a violent spree at multiple locations,” sheriff’s officials said Wednesday.

“He is a convicted felon with multiple past weapons offenses and we intend to seek every possible charge against him. He is being held in our jail pending formal charges.”

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office did not release more information Wednesday on the suspect.

The shooting location was near the school grounds of Oxford High School, the site of a deadly mass shooting on Nov. 30, 2021.
