The National Football League (NFL) has reportedly fined San Francisco 49ers’ star Nick Bosa $11,255 for wearing a Make America Great Again (MAGA) hat on the field following a game on October 27.
A video shared on X, formerly Twitter, shows Bosa interrupting a “Sunday Night Football” victory interview with quarterback Brock Purdy and pointing to a MAGA hat.
According to Fox News, multiple sources confirmed that the NFL fined Bosa since a player wearing a MAGA hat on the field is against the league’s rulebook policies.
Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8 of the NFL rulebook states, “Throughout the period on game-day that a player is visible to the stadium and television audience (including in pregame warm-ups, in the bench area, and during postgame interviews in the locker room or on the field), players are prohibited from wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the League office.”
According to the rulebook, the NFL does not give any players or teams permission to “wear, display, or otherwise convey messages, through helmet decals, arm bands, jersey patches, mouthpieces, or other items affixed to game uniforms or equipment, which relate to political activities or causes, other non-football events, causes or campaigns, or charitable causes or campaigns.”

Following the incident, Bosa told reporters that he was not going to “talk too much about it,” according to Fox News. However, the NFL star indicated that the election was “an important time” in America.
After President-elect Donald Trump’s landslide victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, Bosa doubled down on his decision to wear the MAGA hat on the football field during the “Sunday Night Football” interview.
“It was well worth it,” Bosa said prior to being fined by the NFL. Bosa added, “I don’t think my position on speaking about it is going to change, so clearly the nation spoke, and we got what we got.”
Asked about the 2024 presidential election, Bosa told reporters that he stayed up late to watch the results. “It was fun,” the NFL star said. “It was a good time.”
Following the announcement of the NFL’s fine against Bosa, Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk, who endorsed Trump and campaigned alongside the president-elect during the 2024 campaign, shared a picture of Bosa wearing his MAGA hat. Musk captioned the post with an American flag and fire emoji.
