President-elect Donald Trump announced former independent 2024 presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Thursday as his nominee for the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
In a Thursday statement released on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I am thrilled to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as The United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).”
In his post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Americans have “been crushed” by drug companies and the industrial food complex, which have “engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation” regarding the public health of Americans.
The president-elect described the health and safety of American citizens as the “most important role” of any presidential administration and explained that the Department of Health and Human Services will “play a big role” in helping protect Americans from the “harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming Health Crisis” in the United States.
Trump added, “Mr. Kennedy will restore these Agencies to the traditions of Gold Standard Scientific Research, and beacons of Transparency, to end the Chronic Disease epidemic, and to Make America Great and Healthy Again!”

Kennedy initially launched his 2024 presidential campaign as a Democrat before dropping out of the Democrat primary and launching an independent bid for president. However, the independent candidate eventually suspended his campaign and endorsed Trump.
After receiving Trump’s nomination on Thursday, Kennedy tweeted, “Thank you @realDonaldTrump for your leadership and courage. I’m committed to advancing your vision to Make America Healthy Again.”
Kennedy described the upcoming Trump administration as a “generational opportunity to bring together the greatest minds in science, medicine, industry, and government to put an end to the chronic disease epidemic.” The former independent candidate indicated that he is looking forward to working alongside over 80,000 Department of Health and Human Service employees to “free the agencies from the smothering cloud of corporate capture so they can pursue their mission to make Americans once again the healthiest people on Earth.”
Under his leadership, Kennedy said the Department of Health and Human Services will work to remove corruption, end the “revolving door between industry and government,” and redirect the country’s health agencies back to “their rich tradition of gold-standard, evidence-based science.” Kennedy also promised to be transparent with the American people and provide Americans with the information they need to make healthy choices for their families.
“My commitment to the American people is to be an honest public servant,” Kennedy said. “Let’s go!”
