CBS is facing backlash after airing two different answers Vice President Kamala Harris gave to a “60 Minutes” interview question.
According to Fox News, Harris was mocked by the Trump campaign and Republicans for giving a “word salad” in response to a question CBS host Bill Whitaker asked during her “60 Minutes” interview regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s alleged reluctance to listen to the United States’ advice on the rising tension in the Middle East.
During Sunday’s “Face the Nation” segment, CBS used Harris’ lengthy answer as part of a promotion for the full interview. In the video clip shared on Sunday, Harris said, “Well Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region.”
However, when the full “60 Minutes” interview was aired on Monday night, the 2024 Democratic nominee was recorded giving a completely different answer to the question. In Monday’s “60 Minutes” episode, Harris said, “We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.”
A video comparison of the vice president’s two different responses from the same interview was shared on X, formerly Twitter, by End Wokeness.
In response to the incident, former President Donald Trump’s campaign publicly called for CBS to release the unedited version of the “60 Minutes” interview on Tuesday.
Karoline Leavitt, press secretary for the Trump campaign, released a statement, saying, “On Sunday, 60 Minutes teased Kamala’s highly-anticipated sit-down interview with one of her worst word salads to date, which received significant criticism on social media. During the full interview on Monday evening, the word salad was deceptively edited to lessen Kamala’s idiotic response.”
Leavitt questioned why CBS did not “air Kamala’s full word salad” and what else the show might have decided not to air. She argued that Americans “deserve the full, unedited transcript from Kamala’s sit-down interview.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused CBS of cutting and pasting Harris’ “virtually incoherent” questions in a “possibly illegal” attempt to “make her look ‘more Presidential,’ or a least, better.” The former president suggested that the interview might be a “major Campaign Finance Violation” and that the incident was “a stain on the reputation of 60 Minutes that is not recoverable.”
Trump added that the edited interview was the “very definition of FAKE NEWS” and that CBS owed the American people an apology. “This is an open and shut case, and must be investigated, starting today,” Trump concluded.
