A resurfaced video contradicts the Biden-Harris administration’s recent claim that Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding was not used to support illegal immigrants.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre recently told reporters it was “categorically false” that FEMA funding had been used to support illegal immigrants in the United States. The press secretary’s comments come after she previously announced in 2022 that FEMA funding would be available for cities providing shelter and aid to illegal immigrants.
The Post Millennial cited recent reports that accuse FEMA of providing roughly $641 million in funding for illegal immigrant shelters in places like Washington, D.C., San Jose, California, and Salt Lake County, Utah. The reports come as the Biden-Harris administration has faced whistleblower reports of withheld aid and wasted resources after claiming that FEMA does not have enough money to make it through the remainder of the hurricane season.
Asked about the White House’s response to criticism from former President Donald Trump over the Biden-Harris administration’s use of FEMA funding to support illegal immigrants earlier this year instead of American citizens impacted by the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, Jean-Pierre claimed, “It’s just categorically false. It is not true, it is a false statement.”
Jean-Pierre added, “The fact of the matter is, I think Washington Post fact-checker did a piece, and the headline recently, just moments ago, not too long ago, and the headline was ‘No, Biden did not take FEMA relief money to use on migrants — but Trump did.’ I’ll leave it there.”
In contrast with the Biden-Harris administration’s recent claims that FEMA funding was not used to support illegal immigrants, a video from a September 2022 press conference shows Jean-Pierre explaining how the Biden-Harris administration was using FEMA federal funding to support illegal immigrants in Democrat-run sanctuary cities across the United States.

Asked about the issue of Republican governors transporting illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities and how the federal government was supporting cities with large illegal immigrant populations, Jean-Pierre explained that FEMA regional administrators had been working with various city officials to coordinate federal support from FEMA and other agencies.
“Funding is also available through FEMA’s emergency food and shelter program to eligible local governments and not-for-profit organizations upon request to support humanitarian relief for migrants,” Jean-Pierre told reporters at the time. “We’ll continue to do what we can as a federal government to support these cities as we rebuild our asylum processing system after it was gutted by the Trump administration.”
