A foreign national seeking asylum in the United States allegedly raped an underage female minor repeatedly for years before being recently found dead hanging in a Bronx park in New York City.
Anonymous law enforcement sources told The New York Post on Thursday that 43-year-old Manuel Delgado, an asylum seeker from Peru who had lived in New York City for less than a year before his death, allegedly committed suicide at Pelham Bay Park on October 9. The sources indicated that the foreign national committed suicide after his family learned of his alleged relationship with the teenage relative and reported the situation to local law police authorities.
The New York Post reported that police investigators advised the teenager to call the 43-year-old asylum seeker while they taped the conversation. During the phone call, the teenager told Delgado she was going to report him to the police. In response, Delgado said he wanted to meet her at “the spot where we used to go,” according to the law enforcement sources.

The anonymous law enforcement sources told The New York Post that the location Delgado mentioned was a wooded section at Orchard Beach Road and Bartow Circle. After the foreign national went to the location, he is believed to have committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree.
According to the sources who spoke to The New York Post, Delgado was found hanging from a tree at roughly 1:30 p.m. on October 9. The foreign national had cuts on his neck, stomach, and left forearm. Police investigators also discovered a 9mm shell casing near Delgado’s body.
The New York Post reported that Delgado’s roommate reportedly told the police that Delgado texted him before his death, claiming that he had stabbed himself.
Sources told The New York Post that Delgado is believed to have committed sex crimes against the underage female relative for years, beginning before the family relocated to New York City. The New York Post noted that Delgado was not charged for his alleged sex crimes before his death.
