The devastating impact of Hurricane Helene is becoming more evident as East Tennessee and Western North Carolina begin to assess the damage.

Homes, businesses, roads, and bridges have been wrecked by the powerful winds and floodwaters that tore through the Appalachian region. For nearly 1 million residents, the road to recovery will be long and arduous.

“Tennessee farmland and the devastation hard working farmers must face. Pray for the farmers. They work so hard as it is and many can’t afford flood insurance and virtually none have hurricane insurance. #Helene took their livelihood,” Jennifer Coffindaffer posted on X with footage off the devastation.

One X user shared video showing that Chimney Rock, North Carolina was “obliterated by flash flood from remnants of Hurricane Helene.” The popular tourist destination was almost entirely washed away in the storm.

Media personality Collin Rugg shared additional footage of the flood’s aftermath in Chimney Rock.

“To give you an understanding of the devastation we’re dealing with: Chimney Rock is gone,” a local filmmaker said, according to Rugg.

“September 27, 2024 #Asheville, North Carolina, #USA Asheville’s historic Biltmore Village was submerged after #HurricaneHelena. The Swannanoa River reached #flood levels not seen since 1791,” another X user posted with shocking videos of the scene.

Videographer Bryce Shelton shared videos on X showing cars submerged in flood waters amid a flash flood emergency in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

“New videos are showing the severe flooding brought by heavy rains in East Tennessee as Hurricane Helene went through. Drone footage from the Tennessee Valley Authority shows the Nolichucky Dam this morning in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene’s impact,” X user John Cremeans posted. “The TVA is monitoring the situation and says that the hurricane brought 19+ inches of rain to the area, causing flash flooding.”

Another shocking video posted on X shows “the most terrifying debris flow video” in the region.

Additional videos show the storm’s impact on Asheville, North Carolina.

“In disbelief – that’s the only way I can describe the floods and damage of Tropical Storm Helene in Asheville. My heart goes out to everyone there – as they take steps to rebuild. This is never easy,” one X user wrote.

More horrible footage shows unbelievable flooding in Newport, Tennessee.

“RESCUED! PETA’s rescue team spotted this terrified and abandoned dog in Lumberton, North Carolina on the porch of a flooded home with no way to escape the rising #HurricaneFlorence flood waters and were able to bring him to safety,” PETA posted.

“Tropical Storm Helene has wreaked havoc on Asheville, North Carolina, where entire homes have been seen floating away,” another X user posted.
