Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who was the last candidate to drop out of the 2024 Republican primary election, recently revealed that she was targeted by an Iranian “murder-for-hire” plot and that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) met with her during her campaign to warn her that Iran was “influencing the election.”
Haley’s revelation came during an interview with Margaret Brennan, a CBS News host, on Sunday’s “Face The Nation.” Asked about efforts by foreign actors to influence elections in the United States, Haley said, “First of all, look at what happened in [New York Governor Kathy] Hochul’s office with the Chinese influence and what was happening there. Look at the murder-for-hire plot on U.S. soil, which I was named in, by Iran.”
The former governor and United Nations ambassador told Brennan that Iran, Russia, China, and North Korea have “spent years on the cheapest form of warfare” by dividing the American people and causing “chaos.”
“They have done that,” Haley added. “When I was running my presidential campaign, the FBI had a separate hearing with me to let me know that Iran was meddling in our – influencing the election through with our campaign.”

Asked whether Iran was trying to help her or hurt her during her 2024 campaign, Haley said that Iran had been trying to “hurt” her campaign and indicated that the U.S. adversary had even tried to kill her. “The murder-for-hire plot named me; that’s by Iran,” Haley said.
“Americans need to wake up. Don’t just look at Russia. Don’t just look at China. Don’t just look at Iran. The biggest lesson we need to take is, when you look at social media, I bet you a larger percentage of those are foreign engagements,” Haley added. “And when I was in Taiwan, they would tell you they could look at Facebook. Any time Taiwan put something out, it was suppressed. Anything China put out, it was played up.”
Haley told Brennan that America needs to “wake up” with regard to the actions of foreign actors inside the United States.
Haley’s comments come after the FBI recently revealed that former President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden, and Haley were all potential targets of an Iranian-backed plot to kill a U.S. politician, according to The New York Post.”
