Police officials confirmed that a “suspicious occurrence” was reported near the location of former President Donald Trump’s Wednesday rally in Long Island, New York. However, police officials said reports of an “explosive device” found near the rally venue were not valid.

Following reports of an explosive device being found near the location of Trump’s Long Island rally, a Nassau County Police Department spokesperson told The Daily Mail that “there was a suspicious occurrence” near the location of Trump’s rally, but that there was “no validity” regarding the report of an “explosive device found” on Wednesday.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryde said, “Reports of explosives being found at the site are unfounded.” Ryde added, “There is a person who is being questioned who may have been training a bomb detection dog near the site. The individual with the bomb dog falsely reported explosives being found and that individual is currently being detained by police.”

Earlier Wednesday morning, James Lalino, a journalist with One American News Network, reported that Nassau County Police Department sources told him that the perimeter of Trump’s rally site “was breached and a blue barrel was removed.” Lalino also claimed that officials reportedly “found an explosive device in one of the vehicles” during a K9 sweep of the area.

Lalino cited a source who claimed that the driver “ended up running into the woods.” The source added, “No one saw if he had anything on him, they just saw him take off running. A lot of cars are now parking, they’re lining up on Hempstead Turnpike, just parking on the grass. Even over at Eisenhower Park, they’re just parking over there.”

Trump is expected to hold a rally on Wednesday at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale on Long Island. The rally is currently scheduled to start at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 3 p.m. However, a large crowd of Trump supporters had already gathered outside the rally venue by Wednesday morning.

Wednesday’s incident in Long Island comes just days after the former president was targeted by would-be assassin Ryan Routh in a second assassination attempt at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
