A recent study indicates that between 10% and 27% of non-citizen adults in the United States have illegally registered to vote and that up to 2.7 million non-citizens could vote in the 2024 election.
“The U.S. Census recorded more than 19 million adult non-citizens living in the U.S. during 2022,” Just Facts said in an overview of the study results. “Given their voter registration rates, this means that about two million to five million of them are illegally registered to vote. These figures are potentially high enough to overturn the will of the American people in major elections, including congressional seats and the presidency.”
James Agresti, author of the recent Just Facts study, told The Washington Stand that people claiming that non-citizens “rarely vote” base their studies on “absurd methodologies.”
“In no state in the nation are they required to provide proof of U.S. citizenship in order to register to vote,” Agresti told The Washington Stand. “And if you look at the federal voter registration form, it says you can submit all different forms of ID to register. That could be a Social Security number, it could be a driver’s license number, or it could just be a utility bill. I mean, these are things that anyone can get by living here. They do not prove you’re a U.S. citizen.”
Agresti also warned that a “lot of non-citizens,” including illegal immigrants, have obtained fake Social Security numbers that they use to work in the United States.
In the overview of the Just Facts study, Agresti noted that a previous study conducted in 2014 revealed that 6.4% of non-citizens in the United States voted in the 2008 election and that 81.8% of the non-citizens who participated in the election voted for former President Barack Obama, a Democrat. Agresti explained, “Illegal votes cast by non-citizens ‘likely’ changed ‘important election outcomes’ in favor of Democrats, ‘including Electoral College votes’ and a ‘pivotal’ U.S. Senate race that enabled Democrats to pass Obamacare.”
Agresti concluded that based on the latest study, approximately 1 million to 2.7 million non-citizens are expected to vote in the 2024 election, which could significantly impact the results.
Testifying before Congress in May, Hans von Spakovsky, Heritage Foundation’s Election Law Reform Initiative manager, referenced the Just Facts study, stating, “This new study not only affirms the conclusions of the 2014 report, but, based on an analysis of the more recent data, estimates that 10 to 27% of all aliens currently in the U.S. are registered to vote and that 5 to 13% of them will illegally vote in the 2024 presidential and congressional elections.”
