Law enforcement officials confirmed that Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign office in Arizona was damaged by gunshots just a week after the second assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump in Florida.

The Tempe Police Department told The New York Post that multiple bullets were fired after midnight on Monday and that damage was discovered at the Democratic National Committee campaign office in Tempe.

In a statement to NBC News, police officials said, “We can confirm that on 9/23/24, what appears to be damage from gunfire at … a DNC Campaign Office, was discovered.”

Sgt. Ryan Cook, a Tempe Police Department spokesperson, told ABC News, “No one was inside the office during the overnight hours, but this raises concerns about the safety of those who work in that building, as well as those nearby.”

In a statement to ABC 15, Sean McEnerney, Arizona Democratic Party coordinated campaign manager, expressed gratitude for the Tempe Police Department quickly responding to the incident, adding that it was “fortunate no one was present or injured” by the gunshots.

According to The New York Post, the gunshots at Harris’s campaign office in Arizona were reported after staff workers arrived at work on Monday and discovered damage that appeared to have been caused by gunshots being fired through the building’s front windows.

The New York Post reported that the incident marks the second time that criminal damage has been reported at the Arizona campaign office over the past couple of weeks. Police officials noted that the front windows appeared to have been shot with a pellet gun or BB gun shortly after midnight on September 16.

According to The New York Post, while no arrests have been made in connection with either incident, law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the incidents and are considering all potential motives for the damage inflicted against Harris’ campaign office.

“It’s extremely sad that the Arizona Democratic Party has become the target of violence — it’s not who we are as Arizonans or Americans,” Arizona Democratic Party Chairwoman Yolanda Bejarano told ABC 15. “We are working with law enforcement to ensure this threat is taken seriously and that our staff members are safe while they’re at work.”
