In a September 16 call with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reaffirmed the “importance of a durable and dignified peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said.

He added that Blinken welcomed recent progress between the bitter rivals — including agreement on a border-delimitation regulation that has angered some Armenian opposition figures.

Blinken and Aliyev also discussed areas for regional and bilateral cooperation, including the importance of Azerbaijan’s “adherence to international human rights obligations and commitments,” the U.S. spokesman added.
