A viral video shows Gov. Andy Beshear (D-Ky.) appearing to suggest that former President Donald Trump’s running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), and his family should experience a rape case that leads to pregnancy.

According to The Post Millennial, Beshear’s comments came during an MSNBV interview on Tuesday during the Democratic National Convention when “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski asked the Kentucky governor to respond to the Republican Party’s argument that the Democratic Party would push for abortion to be legal any time during a pregnancy.

“It’s just fear tactics, and it’s just lying to people. I mean, think about what some people have had to go through because of these laws,” Beshear said. “I mean, J.D. Vance calls pregnancy resulting from rape ‘inconvenient.’ Like, inconvenience is traffic. I mean, make him go through this.”

The Democratic governor added, “It is someone being violated, someone being harmed, and then telling them that they don’t have options after that. That fails any test of decency, of humanity.”

Following the Kentucky governor’s interview appearance, Vance slammed the Democrat lawmaker’s suggestion in a post on social media, tweeting, “What the hell is this? Why is Andy Beshear wishing that a member of my family would get raped?!? What a disgusting person.”

When asked for clarification on his comments during another interview on Tuesday, Beshear did not apologize. Instead, the Democrat governor denied that he had suggested a member of Vance’s family should experience an unexpected pregnancy through rape.

“It’s ridiculous, but it’s also deflection,” Beshear said. “J.D. Vance knows that he and Donald Trump are so wrong on this issue, and so he’s trying to make himself the victim.” Beshear later added, “Obviously, I’d never wish harm on anyone.”

A press release by the Trump campaign blasted Beshear for having “explicitly called for a member of Senator Vance’s family to be raped” just one day after the Kentucky governor appeared as a featured speaker at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

The Trump campaign added, “His comments are disgusting, vile, and should not be tolerated in American politics. We call on Kamala Harris to immediately repudiate Governor Beshear’s comments and demonstrate that regardless of partisan disagreements, this kind of violent rhetoric has no place in our public discourse.”

The Post Millennial reported that Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has made abortion a key issue in her 2024 race. The outlet noted that both Harris and President Joe Biden have claimed that a Trump-Vance administration would ban abortions across the United States. Despite the Harris campaign’s claims, the former president has repeatedly explained that abortion laws will continue to be determined by individual states.
