U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell of New Jersey dies at 87

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr., a longtime Democrat representing New Jersey’s 9th District died Wednesday, his family announced in a social media post. He was 87.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce that Bill Pascrell Jr., our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away this morning,” a post shared on the congressman’s X account late Wednesday morning read in part.

Pascrell, described in a bio on his website as a “proud son and lifetime resident of Paterson” was elected to Congress in 1996 after serving in the New Jersey General Assembly and as the mayor of the city of Paterson.

Most recently, the lifelong Paterson resident was serving as the ranking member on the influential Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee, where he worked “tirelessly to improve our tax system for working families.”

“As our United States Representative, Bill fought to his last breath to return to the job he cherished and to the people he loved,” according to the statement shared on X.

The lifelong Paterson resident Bill “had an unwavering love for the city he grew up in and served [and he] is now at peace after a lifetime devoted to our great nation America,” the statement added.
