The Hacienda Community Development Corp (CDC), which has received significant taxpayer funding, is offering non-citizens tens of thousands of dollars to purchase homes in the state of Oregon while refusing to provide American citizens with the same offer.

A post shared by Oregon Citizen, reveals that Hacienda CDC is offering $30,000 in down payment assistance for eligible new homebuyers as part of the organization’s Camino a Casa program.

The organization’s website explains that throughout the program, “Clients work closely with financial coaches and HUD-certified housing counselors throughout the entirety of the homebuying process. In addition to mortgage readiness and financial fitness workshops, we provide various opportunities for down-payment assistance.”

New homebuyers eligible for the program are required to be pre-approved for a mortgage loan and are “only for people who are not American citizens,” such as refugees, green card holders, DACA recipients, and asylum seekers, according to Hacienda CDC.

Sharing pictures of the program on social media, Oregon Citizen tweeted, “What do you think Oregon friends? Should non citizens and undocumented citizens be given $30,000 for down payments to buy a home here in the state of Oregon? Check out the requirements!”

State Rep. Ed Diehl (R-Oreg.) told The Daily Caller that Business Oregon confirmed Hacienda CDC was only offering the $30,000 down payment program to non-citizens.

“American citizens in Oregon are struggling to find and buy a home. We have a severe housing shortage in this state,” Diehl said. “I am appalled that the hard-earned, limited tax dollars of Oregonians are being used to prioritize home ownership for certain non-US citizens. Oregon can’t end this state-sponsored discrimination soon enough.”

According to The Post Millennial, a portion of Hacienda CDC’s funding is provided through the Economic Equity Investment Program (EEIP), which was created as an equity project through the state’s Economic Equity Investment Act (SB 1579). The outlet noted that the organization has received millions of dollars in taxpayer funding from the state and has also received money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The Daily Caller reported that the state approved $8 million this year to the EEIP to fund organizations, such as Hacienda CDC, for “culturally responsive services to support economic stability, self-sufficiency, wealth building, and economic equity among disadvantaged individuals, families, businesses, and communities.”

According to The Daily Caller, critics have warned that Oregon’s legislation enables organizations like Hacienda CDC to discriminate against state residents by excluding U.S. citizens from various programs supported by taxpayer funding.
