An early-morning crash on Interstate 25 sent a car off the road into the South Platte River, police said.
Just before 6 a.m., the Denver Fire and Police departments responded to a two-vehicle crash on southbound I-25, north of Alameda Avenue, officials said.
One car landed in the South Platte River and the driver — an unidentified woman — was able to pull herself out of the vehicle on her own, police said. Fire crews found the woman sitting on top of her car.
A water rescue team walked the driver to shore and paramedics transported her to the hospital with unknown injuries, fire officials said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and information about the second driver was not available Tuesday.
As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, the right-most lane of southbound I-25 remained closed between U.S. 6 and Colorado 26/Alameda Avenue for the crash investigation and clean-up, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Drivers reported up to 20-minute delays in the area, CDOT officials said.
