A large group of pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli protesters took over the Cannon Rotunda on Capitol Hill on Tuesday. The protest against the Israeli government comes just one day before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to give an address to a joint session of Congress.

A video of Tuesday afternoon’s protest shows a large crowd of protesters in red shirts sitting in a circle in the rotunda of the Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill.

According to Fox News, the pro-Palestinian protesters had statements written on their red shirts, which read, “Stop Arming Israel” and “Not in Our Name.”

Fox News noted that the protest on Capitol Hill comes as the Israeli prime minister is scheduled to meet with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris during his visit to the United States this week. Former President Donald Trump also announced on Tuesday that he will be holding a meeting with Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago on Friday.

Fox News reported that several of the anti-Israeli protesters on Capitol Hill were arrested and escorted out of the Cannon House office building.

Sharing a video of the protest on X, formerly Twitter, Greg Price, a former Daily Caller journalist, tweeted, “Pro Palestine idiots just took over the Cannon House office building on Capitol Hill. Storming government buildings represents a major threat to our democracy. Pre-trial solitary confinement for at least a year at minimum.”

Another video of Tuesday’s protest shows protesters with “Stop Arming Israel,” “Let Gaza Live,” and “Jews Say: Stop The Genocide” banners as the protesters chant, “Stop arming Israel. Let Gaza live.”

Tuesday’s protest led to criticism on social media. One X user wrote, “Will any of those ‘protesters’ get jail time like the J6 people? Asking for a friend.” Another user tweeted, “Ummmmmm…..I thought entering the Capital w/o permission and taking over was AN INSURRECTION?”

Fox News previously reported that Harris, who is currently campaigning to be the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee, has declined to preside over Wednesday night’s joint session of Congress featuring the Israeli prime minister. An aide to the vice president indicated that Harris will instead be in Indiana for a previously scheduled event.
