Law enforcement fatally shot an individual near the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Tuesday, WISN reported.
Video posted on X shows a large police presence at the scene. Secret Service agents also reportedly responded to the incident.
“Police involved shooting near 14th and Vliet. We are working to confirm details. From my vantage point, you can see a body covered. Witnesses tell me they heard 5 gunshots. This is happening blocks away from RNC,” local news evening anchor Diana Gutiérrez wrote on X along with footage of the scene.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the shooting took place near North 14th and West Vliet Streets.
The police-involved shooting near the RNC comes just days after former President Donald Trump was shot in the head by a gunman during a rally in Pennsylvania. Trump miraculously survived the attempted assassination.
The Columbus Division of Police released a statement confirming the officer-involved shooting, writing, “This afternoon, the Columbus Division of Police was made aware of an officer-involved shooting involving CPD officers. The officers involved were in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, assisting the Milwaukee Police Department with security during the Republican National Convention.”
“The incident took place in the outer perimeter of the RNC, within the operational zone to which our officers were assigned,” the statement continued. “At this time, it does not appear that the incident was related to the convention. The Milwaukee area investigative team is actively investigating.”
