Law enforcement officials reportedly arrested a man wearing a ski mask who was armed with an AK-47 on Monday near the Republican National Convention’s Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Fox News reported that a federal law enforcement source confirmed that the man was arrested after approaching the RNC perimeter as Capitol Police and Homeland Security Investigators were conducting surveillance operations. The federal law enforcement source confirmed that the man was carrying a tactical bag and was wearing a ski mask.
“Milwaukee Police arrested a 21-year-old man for carrying a concealed weapon on July 15, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., on the 1200 block of N. 11th Street,” the Milwaukee Police Department said in a statement obtained by Bill Melugin, a Fox News correspondent. “United States Capitol Police initially observed the suspect looking suspicious, wearing a ski mask and a large tactical backpack in the street.”
According to Fox News, police officials discovered the AK-47 inside the man’s tactical bag, as well as a full magazine of ammunition. The outlet also noted that police officials have not yet disclosed the man’s intentions.
“United States Capitol Police performed a subject stop, and it was determined that the suspect was concealing a firearm in his backpack,” the Milwaukee Police Department stated. “The suspect does not have a legal CCW permit in Wisconsin or any other state. The suspect was arrested, and charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.”

In a separate incident, law enforcement officers fatally shot an individual on Tuesday near the Republican National Convention.
The Columbus Division of Police released a statement confirming the fatal shooting, saying, “This afternoon, the Columbus Division of Police was made aware of an officer-involved shooting involving CPD officers. The officers involved were in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, assisting the Milwaukee Police Department with security during the Republican National Convention.”
While the Columbus Division of Police noted that Tuesday’s incident occurred within the “outer perimeter” of the Republican National Convention and inside the unit’s “operational zone,” the division said that it did not appear that the incident was “related to the convention.” The Columbus Division of Police added that an investigative team was “actively investigating” the situation.
Both Milwaukee incidents came just days after former President Donald Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
